The findings of three major tax amnesties – including the Tax Health Plan which targeted medical professionals – have enabled HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) to open 16 criminal investigations.
This includes six cases against doctors and dentists, which will be handled by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), as well as hundreds of civil cases against medical professionals.
Overall, the Tax Health Plan has generated over £10 million towards HMRC’s target of recovering the £7 billion reportedly lost to the Treasury every year. This is the result of more than 1,500 disclosures and includes individual payments of £300,000 by a dentist and £1 million by a doctor.
Currently, there are a further 500 ongoing enquiries, and we will, of course, keep you up to date with the latest developments.
