The General Dental Council (GDC) is to advertise for 65 new Fitness to Practise (FtP) panel members.
The Fitness to Practise panel is part of the GDCs efforts to protect patients and raise standards in the industry. If a dentist or dental professional falls short of expected standards, the GDC has the power to take action by either removing or restricting a dental professional’s registration.
Members of the panel sit in public hearings and consider cases where a registrant’s fitness to practise may be impaired due to their health, conduct or performance.
The GDC will begin advertising in February in the national and dental trade press. It is looking for 15 dentists, 25 dental care professionals and 25 lay members.
According to the advertisements, the posts are “great learning and development opportunities for both lay people and dental professionals who are interested in the proportionate and fair regulation of the dental profession.” They are also being billed as “challenging and interesting roles” which will make a difference to both the public and the dental profession.
The recruitment process is being led by the GDC’s Appointments Committee which ensures the independence of the panellists from the Council.
More details on the posts can be found on the GDC website.
