Dentists applying for an NHS pension have been warned to check they are not still listed on open NHS contracts.
Being erroneously listed on a contract could lead to delays in pension payments.
A number of dentists have received delays to their payments are employers had failed to notify Local Area Teams (LATs) that they were no longer on the performers list for NHS contracts in various locations.
One example cited include a dentist, who held a regional dentist position with a large dental corporate until earlier this year, who submitted his pension application to NHS Pensions in July 2014 with a view to retiring in November.
However, his pensions team at NHS Dental Services were unable to send his completed application to the NHS Pensions payments department for processing until the relevant contracts had been closed.
The dentist in question was not notified of the delay and faces a period in his retirement without a pension.
Dentists who are planning to retire should ensure they check thoroughly that they are not listed on any open NHS contracts.
